The coronavirus outbreak is not currently recognised as an epidemic in Japan
The Japan Marine Industry Association has confirmed that the Japan International Boat Show (JIBS) held at the Pacifico exhibition centre and Bayside Marina in Yokohama, near Tokyo, from March 5-8 will take place as planned.
In a statement released this morning the spokesman for the association, Satoru Honda, explained that the association, which organises the show, will continue to monitor the developments of the coronavirus and that the safety of its customers and staff is always its top priority.
However, according to a communication received by the association from the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare on 3 February, the coronavirus infectious disease is not currently recognised as an epidemic in Japan.
In preparing for JIBS 2020 in three weeks’ time, Honda said that the association will implement the measures recommended by the Ministry and the World Health Organization (WHO), which include the installation of hand-washing facilities, disinfectant and health instructions, the establishment of a first-aid room, and encouraging all exhibitors and visitors to wear masks.
However, it is anticipated that some Korean and Chinese exhibitors who had planned to take part will not be attending.
